Over the years I had developed a lot of material (available on my course web site) that was above and beyond the scope of any current textbook. I discovered there was demand from my students for a printed version of these materials: some were nervous about online course delivery and many others were simply printing my web pages to use for in-class reference.

I wanted to provide students with printed matter on which they could make notes, and the idea of having a publication encapsulating my materials-specifically for this one-semester course-was very appealing.

Nelson Custom Publishing allowed me to craft a set of materials very specific to the course I teach. Since approximately 25 percent of the course content needs updating in six months' time, a traditional text would be out of date almost immediately. Both my students and I also wanted a less expensive option than was available from current textbook offerings-and a custom book provides just that.

I teach a half-term Lifespan Development course. The course only covers specific topics, making up approximately one-third of a full Lifespan text. My students were not happy having to pay for a full book and only using a part of it.

I addressed my concerns and requirements to my Nelson Education sales representative, who promptly offered me a custom text covering just what I needed - complete with a professional book cover and table of contents. My custom text has proven to be quite successful with the students. I am very happy with the final result, plan on using additional custom books, and would recommend this route for both instructor and students!
